Has anyone used this service?

I have a short trip to the UK. I'd like to know if I can buy a bottle of duty free spirits and collect it on my return to Dublin.
The website is a little vague on how it works.

As I said, it's not amazingly well explained.
I put an item in the basket and get a different price when entering UK->Ireland than Ireland->UK.

Fairly clear to me - and if you think of it, duty free is for export out of the duty country/region.

Most UK airports have a decent choice. If flying with Ryanair and don't have bags booked, it has to fit in the small carry on bag - but if you have booked bags, then it can be carried separately as a third bag.

Q. I am an Irish resident flying to the UK and I want to buy Duty-Free on my way out at Dublin/Cork Airport. Can I use Shop & Collect?

A. From 1st January 2021, all passengers flying to the UK can avail of our complimentary Shop & Collect service on all products, excluding alcohol and tobacco. If your basket includes mixed products, for example, alcohol and beauty products, your basket may be separated and you can avail of Shop & Collect on qualifying products, as outlined above.

Ok, so I can buy stuff to bring to the UK duty free, but I can't buy it on the way out, then collect it after arriving back in Ireland.
Sorry if this sounds stupid but I don't usually use duty free so I'm unfamiliar with the rules.

Correct. Duty free is for exporting to a country outside the EU. So it has to be carried out of Ireland with you.

Nothing stopping you bringing it back. But it must leave first.

Exactly the same rules apply everywhere.

Correct.

You need to take the alcohol with you. I do day trips to the UK from time to time but not interested in lugging a litre of gin around for the day.
But you can use the click and collect for cosmetics, handy service.
