Cycling shorts for walking

Hi Everyone

I am planning on doing a charity walk in 2 weeks, it covers 55k in around 14 hours. A person I was talking to about it heard that it would be a good idea to wear cycling shorts under my trousers instead of normal underwear but he didn't know much more about it. Does anyone out there know if this is a good idea, if it is should I be looking for certain type of shorts?

By the way the walk is in aid of Stuart Mangan and more info can be found on [broken link removed] if anyone is interested in doing it.

Cycling shorts have a padded bum and I imagine would be quite hot under walking pants.

Are you at risk of chafing?
Have you chafed during training on a 4 or 5 hour walk.

if not I wouldn't worry about it and would wear tried and tested undies...nothing new on the big day.

Blisters on the feet are a bigger danger.
Tried and tested socks are the key and proper hiking socks help alot.
A small thing of vaseline is good to have to rub on red areas.
Make sure your foot wear is well broken in

Good luck

Thanks for all the advice.

Does anyone know what those underarmour type shorts are like?
