Have any of you come across this return reasoning for a business name:
"It appears that the business is located at your residential address. Given the nature of your business it would seem more appropriate that your business would be better located at a commercial premises, please advise. If you will be using your residential address as the place of business please return your application with a cover letter setting out how you will be carrying out business at your residential address, ie confirming whether or not you will be securing a commercial premises in the future, using a workshop / home office at your residential address, carrying out business at your clients’ premises, etc. Alternatively please amend your application to show the correct place of business and return to the undersigned."

I wouldn't mind but the business address was provided and its the address of a shopping center. Have the CRO nothing better to do?

The mind boggles

There are a few types of company:

A sole trader
A limited company
A designated company
A public company

Anyway your question.

A sole trader is a company who sets up in their own name and has unlimited liability.

For example Mary Smith sets up a business as a sole trader. As Mary is a sole trader, the business is called Mary Smith by law. She must use this name. Mary is responsible for any profit or loss the business makes.

Now let's suppose Mary wants to remain a sole trader but wants to trade under a different name because as a sole trader, she must trade as her own name.

Mary can setup a business name. The business name allows Mary to trade as another name, let's say Baby Boomers Childcare.

Mary can trade as this name as long as she does the following:

1. Register the business name with the company registration office

Sorry hit post

2. She must on her stationery put in the corner somewhere Mary Smith trading as Baby Boomers Chilcare

Finally, Mary doesn't file accounts with the company registration office but the business name will show as registered.

Just write back to them and say it's a mistake, the address is in a shopping centre.

There is nothing wrong with having your registered address as your home address and running your business elsewhere. You may want to register the business name first before going to look for a premises to run it out of...
