Credit Check

Hi,

Can anyone tell me what is involved in a credit check by a bank. I've never had a bank loan so I am wondering if that will work against me? Had a few Credit Union loans and always paid everything back on time.

In the same way that solicitors do a search with the land registry against property being bought to ensure there are no irregularities, banks do a "prevention is better than cure" credit check on applicants.

They'll basically see if your name matches any defaulted loans, lists of which are made searchable for banks.

You could show them your history with the credit union and your dilligence should see you in good stead. Evidence of being able to save and no outstanding loans are also taken on board by the bank when considering your application.

You have nothing to worry about if you have been financially well behaved!
