Credit card stamp duty

Hi,

If I get a new credit card this month, will I be charged stamp duty on it now or on April 1 2013? I already have another credit card for which I paid the stamp duty on April 1 but now getting a new one (not switching the old one).

Well I've just canceled two cards last month and had to pay the final two €30 duties so I'd assume its next April you'd have to pay.

Stamp duty is generally collected on 1 April, in arrears unless the account is closed during the year. The tax year for credit cards runs from 2 April to the following 1 April. This means that the stamp duty charge usually appears on credit/charge card statements in April.
