I bought a creative zen and the usb ports in my lab top are both damaged so I use a usb hub, it does not work in the hub it will only connect in the port but as the port is damaged it says power surge and it can cut out several times I do not wish to put it in this. Why will it not work in a hub can I do any thing to change this. Also I brought it to put on my computer at work I loaded the software ok but it would not work in the usb there. can you only dock it in the computer that you put it on first or is there some thing wrong with this device. I got it from komplette so I am not sure about tech support any advice please.

Have you tried the creative website? They have a pretty good support page/ . haven't had these issues with my creative so can't offer any more info, sorry.

It should work with any USB port. If the USB port is powered.

Can you plug AC power into the hub?

I read somewhere (I think boards.ie) that some Zen's required USB port with a good USB power. For some PC's this meant that only the rear USB ports have sufficient power to charge the Zen, as power capacity of front USB ports were bit lower.

Maybe this is of some help.

Otherwise, have you tried pressing the Reset button?

check the settings on the usb hubs in the system settings.

Might be a power option that needs to be changed.

It seems like the USB ports on your laptop are damaged - I would recommend not connecting the Zen to these as you could damage it - the reason it won't work on the hub is that the hub is not powerful enough (it's tasking the power from one port and sharing it among more than 1). Also the PC in work may only have USB 1, again not powerful enough - as has been suggested check if there is a USB connection at the back of the PC in work - if not try a different PC. I know that for Zunes and iPods, even though they may be associated to one PC/music library they can always be connected to a different PC/music library - I presume this is the case for Zens aswell?

this seems to be the problem that the hub does not have the required power and I do not want to put it in the damaged usb as it keeps saying power surge so I will try again at work and use a different pc thanks again

Just buy a powered usb hub. They are worth it.
