Thinking of buying 15 year old 4 bed dormer. All bedroom floors upstairs are bare deal T&G boards with hidden nailing. All floors are creaking badly. It is not just an isolated loose board. Every step you take in every room, there is a creak.
Would appreciate help. What is likely cause, & what solution.
Short of taking up boards & relaying, best solution I can see is screwing in a lot of screws, which would leave a lot of srewheads visible. I dont fancy hammering in nails, for fear of cracking plasterboard ceiling downstairs.
Is the cause likely to be more serious, like joists too far apart, or insufficient support struts between joists.
