A court report in a recent Kerryman:
A man was charged with illegal salmon fishing in Kerry. His solicitor said in his defence: he was walking along when he saw a salmon caught in a net in the river, and jumped in to rescue the distressed fish.
The fishery officer gave evidence that he saw the man pull the salmon from the net, hit it over the head, and throw it into some bushes on the river bank.
Judge Mary O' Halloran found the defendant guilty despite the defence put forward. I kid you not.
