VHI Couple in 80's: VHI HealthPlus Choice renewal Jan 1st €5,263.76 V Laya HealthWise+

My husband is 86, I am 80.

Our VHI HealthPlus Choice plan is due for renewal 1st Jan 2014. The new premium is €5,263.76.

Laya healthcare have proposed a plan Laya HealthWise Plus (No Excess) for €2.334.78!

I need a private room - my husband does not.

I would appreciate advice on how these compare - there is such a big difference.

in the previous years would you have spent that much on medical complaints annually? Do you expect that you will need to this year?

I had early-stage bowel cancer 6 years ago - a bowel resection (no follow up treatment was necessary). I now have a colonoscopy every 2 years. I had complete cover in a private room in a private hospital. My VHI HealthPlus Choice plan covered this.

Would Laya HealthWise (No Excess ) provide the same cover?

Laya HealthWise Plus (No Excess ) covers Private room in private hospital but has a shortfall of €150 per night. Day case private hospitals covered also, which presumably would cover the colonoscopy??
