cost of multi media cards

At Christmas I bought what I thought was a great bargain-512sdmmc for 100e from an Irish website.The prices quoted to me in local shops was 200-220e for the same card.Yesterday I came across the same card for sale on amazon.co.uk for 30 sterling(43 euro).Even with postage this works out 4 times cheaper.How can such a huge difference be justified by the shops.Any comments please.
