Hi,

This is a query in relation to my mother who is in her early sixties and has a small farm and in receipt of a contributory widow's pension. Is it the case that she will automatically qualify for the contributory old age pension? Our concern is that she won't ,and that she will be subject to means testing in order to qualify for a pension.

Thanks

Old Age (Contributory) Pension is paid to people over age 66 who satisfy the criteria as outlined by Clubman. This is changing to State Pension (Contributory) in late Sepember 2006.

If your mother doesn't qualify for it, she should stay on her existing payment as the maximum rate of Widow's Contributory Pension for a person over age 66 is the same as the maximum rate of OACP - €193.30 a week.

Hope this helps.
