I have had my home contents insurance with AIB Home Insurance for the past number of years and this year when I got the renewal notice I decided to check out alternative prices via 123.ie. The price quoted was €1,222 which seemed high given that I have never had a claim in over 10 years.
To my surprise the prices quoted on 123.ie were less than half what I have been paying at AIB. When I contacted AIB they said that was because my policy has unlimited contents cover (which I had never asked for! ) and if I would like to specify a limit I could avail of a discount. I did this and the price was reduced to €544!!
Then I went online to AIB.ie and submitted a request for a quote for exactly the same conditions and you've guessed it - the price was €353!!!!!
The moral of the story.....shop around!!
