Hi,

If you take out home insurance with contents insurance, how are contents listed or valued? If you had say 25k contents insurance, and there was an issue with the house due to fire, etc.

Let's say I had several laptops, etc. in the house... how would these be claimed? Do they have to be prelisted or is a declaration of honour or something else?

All contents over a certain value must be listed on Insurance inception or renewal. The Insurance company or broker will be able to advise you concerning the amounts etc.. Regarding laptops maybe you should advise the Insurance Co of the facts rather than waiting for a claim.

Most content policies will have a single article limit applied to the policy (A number of insurers will set a figure like 5%). So if you insured your contents for €30,000, once any one item is worth less then €1500 you will be covered. Insurers vary in cover so make sure to read the full policy wording.
