Hi all,

Purchased a laptop in Harvey Normans , The screen went on it after a month. I got a replacement after one week.they asked if I want my data off the old laptop so I said yes.

They shipped it off to Computer Unlimited who are now trying to charge me €95!!!

I know someone who will do it for me for free. I didnt realise I had to pay for this..

Do I have the right to demand my data back?

Any thoughts ?

cheers

hiya - that is madness.. shouldn't have to pay for that... if Harvey N didn't mention a cost at the time & there is nothing in their terms & conditions, then you shouldn't need to pay that. If they are not going to do it for you without a charge, then request your old laptop be sent back & you can get that info off your machine...

Then again, is there personal information on that laptop that you need?

Hiya thanks for the reply.
no cost mentioned at the time (not sure about the t&cs yet)

Yeah its the personal info I need!!!! I will have to get the info myself but they are reluctant to give me the disk!

I am aware of a friend of mine who had a new laptop off harry norman and it went wrong, when they gave him a replacement laptop they done the data copying onto a stick and gave to him, no charge!
