Compost heap in garden without attracting vermin

Don't put out any food scraps as they'll attract seagulls/magpies which ruin the estate with their white 'gifts' - on roofs, gutters, windows, cars, driveways .....

My compost bin has a lid. If a magpie or seagull get it open, they deserve the contents for their efforts.

I have an open air compost heap in my garden. I put grass cuttings, leaves, uncooked vegetables, tea bags, paper. Since last summer I have not turned it . My big concern is that right beside it, my neighbour has some bird feeders. When the pigeons and magpies feast on these you see bits of nuts flying all over the place. I can visualise a nice warm compost heap with tasty food on tap for the rats.

Hopefully I can get out in the next couple of weeks and have a look to see if I have a problem with rodents but touch wood I have not had any problems since I started this heap over 3 years ago.

Incidentally I picked up a kilo of seed potatoes from Aldi yesterday for €1.49. A good price and they looked good quality.
