* The consumers' rights may depend on a number of factors, such as, if there was a guarantee/warranty with the car, what was said by the dealer about it and if the consumer had the car checked over by an expert before purchasing.
* However, in general, if there is a fault with the car, the consumer should be entitled to a repair, replacement or refund.
* If the consumer receives no satisfaction directly from the garage, they may wish to contact to the Society of Irish Motor Industry (SIMI), if the garage is a member, to pursue their complaint. under the SIMI's complaints and investigation procedure
* If they are still not happy, they may wish to take legal advice from a solicitor on the best way to proceed.
* If the consumer wishes to claim solely for a repair, they may be able to pursue the matter through the Small Claims Court.
