We have a gas fire for the last couple of years. Are the coals just for cosmetic reasons or do they serve any purpose i.e. should they be replaced every couple of years ?
I think that they help to distribute the heat although I am not sure. when I got my fire serviced last year I was told to go and buy some new coals. It wasn't that I was buying them from the service man I was buying them somewhere else so they must serve some purpose.
