Closing a U.S. bank account

Hi,

I was on a J1 in the U.S. a couple of years ago and I was wondering how I could close a bank account I have there as I will not be using it in the future. There would be high costs involved if I had to do it by phone. I also don't know what documents or process is involved if anyone knows?

Assume you have no cheque book or atm card.

Write to the bank branch at the postal address, quote your name and account number, ask that the account be closed and proceeds posted out to you by bankers payment, give a contact phone number in your letter.
