At the risk of asking a stupid question, are any/many of the guys in the local papers who offer to clear your garage, etc, (for a smallish fee) legitimate and going to legally dispose of the rubbish? I have a back shed with old chairs, wardrobe and miscellaneous rubbish - I would be delighted to get it cleared (yes - I know I can get a skip and do it myself but this is far handier). I dont have a trailer or similar to bring the stuff out to Ballymount.

What I dont want is to give it to someone whos going to dump it down a country road.

thanks

You can ask to see their licence or permit to collect waste, if they are legit, they will have one of these.

If you have enough to fill a skip then they won't be any cheaper as the charges at the recycling places for a van tends to be prohibative:

Small van (max. 6 cubic meters / 212 cubic feet): €128 (not allowed for green waste) - Coolmine

So if they are charging you less than the cost of the dump, then they are almost certainly dumping it somewhere else.
If the seats in you car fold down & you break everything down as small as possible, it's amazing what you can get into the back & the charge for a full car is only €16 (I managed to fit a 8ft trampoline, slide, matress, few chairs & some other bits & pieces)
