Hi
Anyone got any tips for how you can clean the metal base of an iron that has old gunge and stuff like transfer from tee-shirts, black nylon type melt etc stuck to it from ironing things at too high temperature

..or is it just easier to buy new iron

Thanks

From memory I think a brillo pad does it OK.

Depends how you price/value your own labour cost per hour though - a half decent iron is pretty cheap these days.

you could try WD40its good at removing glue and such like, then scrubbing with brillo pad but this will more than likely remove the polished surface that helps the iron glide over cloths

The missus got an iron-cleaning cloth from one of those catalogues (Kleeneze ?) that worked a treat.
