claiming tax back on medical expences query?

hi there, do I have to be working and paying tax to claim tax back on medical expences? im currently not working or receiving any social welfare. thanks

Yes you must being paying tax, you can't get a rebate of it if you didn't pay any. If anyone paying tax was feeling generous and wanted to pay the medical expenses for you they could claim the tax relief.

thanks for that, my partner is paying tax and the medical expence actually involves him to an extent so I can get him to claim it back. do I need to show the monies actually came from his bank a/c as we were going to put it on my credit card as its a large amount? thanks

I'd say it would be easier in the long run if you can show your partner paid for the expenses. Cheque /draft /cc etc
