Hi there,
I was made redundant back in June and have since immigrated to the US with my family. My wife and I have a house in Ireland that are renting out. The rent just covers the mortgage.
I have since sent in my P-45 and P50 into revenue to get a tax refund however I have just received a reply saying I need to include my income from our rental house.
Will this lower the amount of tax we are entitled to get back?
We are not profiting from the rental property

You should let them know the income from the property and also the cost of the upkeep of it that is maintenance charges as well as other costs of ware and tear and any other expenses that you have or will be incurred with the rented property. I am sure someone will come along and let know more but that is my limited knowledge of it.

Have you registered the Property with the PRTB? you'll need to have done this to claim back the mortgage interest relief.
Have you appointed an agent in Ireland to collect the rent on your behalf? If not, your tenants are obliged to remit 20% of the rent to the Revenue.
Check previous threads on your obligations as an absentee landlord.

Thank you all
Yes I have registered with PRTB and have an agent. Also tenants are getting rent allowance.
I have a list of expenses but on a P50 it just asks for additional income it does not give any space for expences etc.
I will ask revenue and see what they suggest.
I just don't want to get screwed and not get the taxes I'm entitled too.
Thanks again

theres definitely an issue with taxes and paying rent to an overseas landlord. I think the tenant is liable if you dont declare, not suggesting you wouldnt. I'll find out more and get back
