I got married late in 2025 and in early March 2026 my spouse and I opted to be jointly assessed. We checked the box to be retrospectively assessed for 2025 too and opted for her tax credits to be allocated to me. She has been out of work since around Q3 2025.
Since then, each of our status have been in "Update pending".
My questions:
1. In order to be jointly assessed for 2026 and retrospectively be evaluated for 2025, should revenue have approved the update by 31/03? Or was raising it by 31/03 good enough? I am keen to ensure we are effectively using her tax credits.
2. How long did it take for your civil status update to be reflected?
My understanding for Q1:
We're fine as we've raised 3 weeks before the deadline. I'm looking to confirm based off others experience who were stuck in "Update pending". As per Revenue.ie [not allowed paste the link!] "You must do this on, or before, 31 March in the year you want the selection to apply."
Thank you!
