Hi guys,

I am due to end a fixed term in May with my current mortgwge provider. I have enquired about a new mortgage with AIB and Halifax who are offering the best rates at the moment. AIB are offering a variable rate of 3.3% and Halifax 3.45%. However my query is that who do people feel is the best provider to go with in the long run? Halifax were the lowest only up to recently and do people feel AIB's competitive pricing is as a result of their recent capitalisation and therefore circumstances may cahnge resulting in them increasing their prices. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

It is also worth remembering that Halifax Bank of Scotland has now been taken over by Lloyds TSB and it is unknown how competitive they will be in the Irish market in the future. The parent company has its woes and may not want to be so aggressive in this market.
Indeed, they might not want to be in this market at all.
