Wrong forum Chimneys, Sweeps and wood burning stoves

Getting on in years as I am, I was thinking it would be nice to snooze beside a wood burning stove this winter.

Put in a wood burning stove and stick the flue up an existing chimney - easy ?

Digging into how to do this so that I dont suffocate or set the house on fire it has become clear to me that chimneys are much more than a pipe through the roof.

While doing this I came across ( dont laugh )

Among other things it seems that :

- CCTV inspection is no longer just for drains

- Its not done to use a non insulated flue for a wood burning stove.


Is the end of the cowboy sweep at hand ?

I hope the cowboy days are coming to an end as badly installed appliances can be very dangerous. It will be good to see some standards being upheld by educated installers fitting products properly. The courses look interesting as I expect they will answer a lot of questions.
