children ? do they increase your tax exemption ?

Hi,
if you have a child. are you allowed to increase your tax credit ? I.e Dependant child . If yes. by how much ?

Only if the parent is a single parent.

Then the credits are increased by €1,580 (2005). SRCOP is also increased to €33,400
 
If there is a stay-at-home carer minding the child, you can get the €700 pa carers allowance.
 
Would a non working wife qualify as a "stay at home carer?"
 
If she is caring for a child or dependant adult, yes.
