demoivre is correct, unless either parent is in receipt of a social welfare payment, including FIS. In that instance they are entitled to a Child Benefit Compensatory Payment (CPS). The rate is €15 per week paid monthly in arrears on 3rd monday of the month. Final payment is the month of child's 19th birthday or December 2010, whichever is earlier. Claim is paid in usual way the CB was, i.e. though Post office, bank, except the date is changed to 3rd monday of the month.

gm88 or anyone else, please, for a family I know claiming FIS the mother was chatting the other day about her CB being the same as mine. Does that mean the husbands FIS includes some CB, that really should be hers for the kids.

Child benefit is a universal payment which is the same for all regardless of parents' income or other benefits. The level of FIS which the family gets would be based on income and number of children.

My niece started college last year at 18. She got a form signed by the college and got payment up until she turned 19 in May. You get it to 19 if in third level education.

It was changed at the last budget, it's only paid to age 18 now (apart from the compensatory payment outlined by gm88 above).
