hi
i was hoping to get some advice about a cheaper policy than the vhi one plan family policy which we currently have. We are a family of four. Day to day expenses not important. Really only interested in hospital cover.

Also my parents have the nurse plan with vhi and are due to renew soon. Again they are only interested in hospital cover.

Any advice much appreciated. Thank you. We would prefer to stay with vhi.

Hi Robin123,

Welcome to AAM.
For your parents, the following VHI plans are worth considering, details as follows;
1. VHI PMI 37 13; price 1075pa; all public, private and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered; private/hi-tech excess 100 per admission and day case
procedure. Limited day to day cover.

2. VHI PMI 07 10; price 1188pa; all public, private and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered, private/hi-tech excess capped at 150 x 1 max per year for all
admissions, day case excess 50 per procedure. No excess to pay in any public hospital. Good day to day cover included, 1 euro excess,
50% refund for consultants visits, gp, physio, dental etc. This plan is highly recommended due to the capped excess for all private/hi-tech
admissions, fairly new on the market since October 2018.

2 Adults
1. The only plan worth recommending is VHI PMI 37 13 @ 1075pa; not much difference in price but worth switching to as it has a lower excess of
100 per admission and per day case procedure.

2 children;
1. VHI One + Plan; price 209pa; all public, private and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered, private/hi-tech hospital excess 125 per admission and
per day case procedure. The 3 hi-tech hospital offer a range of childrens surgery if required, fully covered on this plan.

2. VHI One Plan Starter; price 115pa; all childrens hospitals are public, so this plan covers all public hospitals.

Hi Snowyb,

Thank so much for your prompt reply. With regard to both queries is there an alternative policy with another company which would be better that the vhi policies? Cheaper than the vhi policy for similar cover or with better cover for a similar price? Thanks so much

Robin123,

For your parents, the following plans with Laya are well worth considering. Details as follows;

1. Laya Simply Connect; price 1100pa; all public, private and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered, private/hi-tech excess 150 x 2 max per year for all
admissions. Day case excess 50 per procedure. No excess to pay in any public hospital. Good day to day cover included, 50% refund for
consultant visits, gp visits, physio, dental etc - subject to a max refund of 500 per year. (50% of 1000 = 500).

2. Laya Simplicity plan; price 1231pa; all public, private(including private room fully covered), and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered, private/hi-tech
excess 100 x 2 max per year for all admissions(regardless of how many per year). No excess to pay in any public hospital. Good day to day
cover included, 50% cover for consultant visits, gp, dental, physio etc - note, the first 100 is not allowed.
The only reason for picking this plan is if you want full cover for a private room in a private hospital, if this is not a priority to you, then Simply
Connect is the better plan.

3. Laya Connect Simplicity; price 1329pa; all public, private(including private room fully covered), and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered, private/hi-tech
excess 150 x 2 max per year for all admissions(regardless of how many per year). No excess to pay in any public hospital. Good day to day
cover included, 50% refund for consultant visits, gp, physio, dental etc - 1 euro excess.
Again, you would only choose this plan if you want full cover for a private room in a private hospital. Its like Simplicity plan but with a 1 euro
excess for day to day cover. If a private room is not a priority, then Simply Connect is the better option.

NOTE; the above 3 plans have 100% cover for orthopaedic surgery(hip and knee replacement surgery) in any private and hi-tech hospital, no
excess, no shortfall to pay. The VHI plans have 80% cover for this surgery in private or hi-tech hospitals which means a shortfall of 3000 has to
be paid by the patient. Unless you go to Blackrock Clinic where they don't pass on this charge to the patient.

For yourselves, 2 adults the Laya Simply Connect plan @ price 1100pa is the best alternative. Details as above.

Children;
Laya have a children's special offer at the moment, whereby you pay for the 1st child and the rest of the children are free.

1. Laya Essential Health 300; price 234pa(total price for all children), all public, private and Beacon hospital covered, private excess 300 x 2 per
year for all admissions. No excess to pay in any public hospital.

2. Laya Flex 125 Explore; price 343pa;(total price for all children), all public, private and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered, private/hi-tech excess 125
per admission, day case excess 50 per procedure. No excess to pay in any public hospital.

There is also the option for the 2 adults to choose Laya plans for themselves and the children to be with VHI if you want.
If the children are on a Laya plan, at least one adult must also be on any Laya plan.
Children can be with VHI on their own, an adult is just named on the policy but only the children are insured.
