Charged €3 for using Visa Debit

A travel insurance company (Irish) has just charged be €3 for using Visa Debit whereas their laser fee is zero.

Is this widespread - are we now all getting ripped off for using Visa Debit cards? Are the retailers being charged more money by the banks for this?

Seems very odd. Did they state this clearly in their terms and conditions?

They get charged very little by the bank, unlike credit cards.

If it's a matter of fact, then there is no issue in naming the company as a warning to others.

Hi Brendan, yes it is a matter of fact. The Travel Insurance is Getcover and the options are clearly divided between Visa, Master Card, Laser and Visa Debit. Only the laser option does not carry the €3 "card fee". (This only shows when actually paying for the policy - I haven't seen whether some t&c's refer to it).
