a person i know has bought a pub in the last year and has made considerable changes in how it was previously run, however the name of the establisment has remained as the name of some previous owner, lets say "murphys inn" , my friend says that he is not allowed to change the name of the business for a few years as i was asking him why he doesnt put his own name over the door. this doesnt make sense to me, does anyone know if this is true it kind of has me wondering if this guy really bought this business or if he's just leasing, any thoughts?

There may be some condition in the sale or lease regarding name but if there is not then a business name can be registered or changed through the Companies Registration Office Business Names Section. See www.cro.ie.
