Changing broadband through switcher.ie

I have found a new broadband package I want to use on switcher.ie.

If I sign up on the switcher.ie site what else do I need to do ? I am out of contract with my current provider, I have a rolling 30 day notice period.

Does switcher.ie give the notice, or must I do something myself. Thanks

I would always notify my current provider and give the notice specified in the contract just to be safe.

I believe there may be some provision for the new provider to handle the cancellation but it's hardly foolproof and likely falls down if you're changing infrastructure. As @ClubMan says play it safe.

Unlike other types of utility (electricity for example) theres more than one form of infrastructure over which you can receive broadband (open eir, siro, virgin media etc.). There's no guarantee your new provider will check you're customer across all them all. I doubt they could even if they wanted to.

For good measure switcher.ie also make the point it's on you to cancel

Preferably in writing (email) and ask for their confirmation. Request delivered receipt on the email.

Elderly neighbours left it to Eircom to move them, which they did not do, from Virgin Media. Despite them being mid-contract, which they convinced them wasn't a problem. Pursued relentlessly by solicitors for a few hundred settlement which they eventually had to pay.

Am in the process of switching to VF from VM as im out of contract as VM had no decent discount for me to stay.
The customer service person at VF said they just take over the (fibre) line and i dont need to give VM 30days notice.
VM state they require 30days notice via 1908 or snail-mail. Messy process. No wonder many people dont switch.

As I said before, whatever the new provider says, it's probably always safest to give the current provider the notice specified in one's existing contract (and in whatever form that they mandate) just to avoid any surprises.

That is exactly what happened to my neighbours when applying to Eir and leaving Virgin Media and it cost them dearly along with a lot of stress over many months. Best advice is @ClubMan says to check your terms and conditions and also listen to what your current provider has to say on the matter rather than someone who may be trying their hardest to meet their quotas.

I have given 30-days notice of cancellation to my current provider and have confirmation of the end-date in writing (email).
