I have CRH Shares and did not take up the Rights Issue in 2009. They sent me a cheque in lieu of proceeds after Rights. I omitted this in Return for 2009 by mistake, because carrying forward a loss for CGT. I want to return the amount now retrospectively. Is the total amount received the chargeable CGT (against c/f loss), or is there some method of averaging out total shareholding to date?

It would be deemed a partial disposal of the shares. So you will only have capital gains on part of the proceeds.
