CGT Calculations

I have read other threads but not quite clear. The only shares I have/had were First Active & Eircon (Vodafone).

Can I offset any of my CGT demand received in post because of the following:

Bought 5703 eircom shares @ £3.07 = £17,508 June 1999
Sold 4600 eircom shares @ £3.71 = £17,081 July 1999
Commission £140.92 net = £16,939

1103 shares remained at July 2004 plus 44 free

Received €1,531.24 when eircom to valentia = 1147 shares = 1147 x €1.335
PLUS 543 shares from vodafone on 05/01

I am singly assessed, can anyone see anything here that be used to reduce CGT ?

PS - Thank goodness I sold the bulk of shares when I did !

If you have incurred a loss on the 1103 eircom shares as a result of the Valentia buy-out

then chances are that this will have to be offset against the 2003 FA Capital Repayment leaving little or nothing to be offset against the 2004 takeover payment.

I'd love to go into more detail but I'm afraid that I have more than enough on my plate trying to sort out my own figures I'm afraid and payment is due by the end of the week! :\
