Hi,
There is a noise coming from my central heating boiler. It is a whining noise or like a grinder. the heating appears to bo working fine. I got it serviced last august/september. Possible bearing noise? Carpenter if you see this I would be grateful for your thoughts. The noise is coming from the burner not the pump.

How do I check the water pressure? The rads all over the house are heating ok. Will I change the settings on the thermostat to see if there is any improvement? As I said, the noise comes from the burner not the pump. Time to get the plummer in?

Is it a gas or oil boiler?

I have a whiney gas boiler and I was told it could be the boiler fan.

Oil. The sound comes 2 seconds before the ignition kicks in. is there a pump to supply the oil to the boiler or does gravity assist?

I have a whiney gas boiler too, it's been happening the odd time since it was serviced in November.

The reason that everthing happens to a boiler after servicing is because clients pay little attention to it until it breaks down and then having paid for a service pay special attention to it for a while.

Ok there may be the odd loose panel or screw missing but that quite a rare occurance.

Macnas,

I'm having the same problem with my gas boiler and the whining is getting progressively louder. I'm waiting on my gas guy to come and take a look at it (busy time of the year) but as soon as he explains the issue to me I will post on this thread.

Looking on the bright side, my wife is away for a couple of days and as soon as the boiler kicks in I stop missing her ;)

With oil it's most likley oil pump or motor bearing (somtimes poor fuel
oil flow due to fitler/pipe blockage)

with gas, normally the fan bearings, or pump on a system boiler
but can sometimes be the gas valve
