I have a very old gas central heating system and my knowledge of its workings is nil. My question is can you disable the clock so that you just manually switch on and off when you need to. We have never used the clock but sometimes when we want to switch on the clock wont allow us and we press an override button which leads to confusion.

the clock is fitted near the electric switch downstairs which switches on the system.

Your best bet is to spend €40 and just replace the whole clock, go to a plumbing merchants (not a hardware store) and pick on that matches your old one (easier to swap) or go for a new digital one. You may need to use someone who is competent at wiring although there are still easy enough to install.

if u dont use the clock then just get an electrician to take the clock off the wall and replace it with a double pole switch. works and looks the same as a lightswitch. simple ten minutes job costing no more than 50 euro and even that would be steep.
