Central Bank warning about unauthorised car insurance firms

I was surprised that the CB alerts included the website addresses but at least they weren't clickable and I suppose that is useful to warn people what URLs to be wary of. I agree that it seems odd that the IEDR hasn't taken them down but I've no idea how that process is supposed to work and how quickly it operates.

I think they need a court order to take them down quickly, perhaps that is in progress but I assume the CB would issue the warning like this with some urgency and not wait the weeks that would take.

In general, IEDR doesn't take it upon itself to police what registrants do with their domain names. If you think a registrant is using its domain to do something unlawful, they say you should report that to the appropriate enforcment authority - the Guards, the Central Bank, whoever, depending on the nature of the unlawful activity. The key issue is that the activity is unlawful, not that it's being conducted through a .ie domain.

Having said that, if you're using your domain for any unlawful purpose, that is grounds on which IEDR can revoke, suspend, etc your registration; that's part of the T&C that you sign up to when you register. But I think they'd wait for the appropriate law enforcement agency to ask them to revoke, etc, and they'd want the agency to produce some kind of evidence, or some kind of determination, that unlawful activity was going on. In this case, for example, they might need the Central Bank to satisfy them that We Go Insure and/or Temp Insurance Cover have actually provided insurance intermediary/distribution services in Ireland (i.e. have actually issued contracts).
