I have reason to believe our company is in negotiations for a takeover (more like the Directors bailing out), but have not been told anything.
I saw one Director completing P.45's on her desk on Tuesday. I normally do wages.
A couple of weeks ago, the director whom I caught doing the P45's made a passing comment that if I was looking for a job now, that wages have dropped, and I would be doing well to get €5K less than I am getting now.
I thought nothing of it at the time, but I think they must have been in discussions with the new people about our salaries.
Have read up employment rights.ie and it seems that they have to transfer us on the same conditions as I have here. Am I right?
Couple of questions that people might help with, if they can.
1. Does getting a P.45 from one company and being taken on by another constitute a break in service? I dont think it does, but want to be sure.
2. The commute will add 1 - 1.5 hours minimum to my journey each way every day and I dont really want to go there. Its not that far distance wise, but traffic wise is another matter altogether. I feel they will try to sell me the job, you are on good money (which I am), so to get it you will have to live with the commute.
3. I feel the new employer will need me for the short term for continuity of our client files, so might then try and push me out once I have outlived my usefulness. I also dont want to be somewhere and feel under a compliment (you are lucky to be getting such good wages)
4. There is also another person in the office cant possibly get there(no direct public transport link) and does not drive. They know this and it would suit them, as there will not be a suitable position for her in the new place. She wont be told this incidentally. Has she any comeback either?
Sorry for being all over the place with this, but when I saw partially completed P.45's for us, I nearly had heart failure and did no work for the rest of the day.
We have been told nothing and have let on we know nothing, but the atmosphere in the office is very strained.
I dont want to fall out with them, as they have been good to me, but to be fair, I in turn have done an excellent job for them and kept things going through thick and thin, when it has been very tough sometimes.
Any other practical advice anyone can offer would be much appreciated.
Have just taken on a new mortgage, so great.
