Castleland Park Balbriggan good or bad area?

hi we recently put a deposit on a house in castleland park(the new estate by the monument roundabout) and we've been really excited about it as the houses are beautiful and just what we are looking for. but we have heard from a few people that its a bad area.....as this is only a brand new development there are only a handful of people living in it at the moment, so it is very hard to tell what kind of an estate its going to be....but we took a drive up today and drove into the estate across the main road from castleland park called castleland court and i think hamilton aswell, and some parts of that area looked like a council estate, there seemed to be a lot of foreign nationals living there and loads of kids running around the streets and climbing up on balconies etc.....if anyone lives around there or knows anything about these estates or can offer me advice, please let me know, as we already made a terrible mistake with our first house and are trying desperately to get out of this area after only six months, we dont want to be in the same position in another six months. thanks

I live in Balbriggan and although i would prefer Skerries since i grew up there i don't find Balbriggan bad at all. i think wherever you go now you have the same situation with these estates. There is affordable housing in most new housing estates and therefore you can very easily end up with someone living next to you who paid half of what you did for the same house. Also there are lots of investment properties around that could be rented out to anyone at all you just never know. I don't think you have made a mistake in buying this house but i think you need to realise that it dosnt matter where you buy a house nowadays once you are living in an estate there are always going to be problems that arise when people move in who are a bit anti social.

Why do you think that it's a bad area because there are foreign nationals living there? I'm sure foreign nationals must get sick of these posts. Makes me a bit sick too.

Im sure the poster is not putting ALL foreign nationals down by saying this but i do have to agree with the poster that the MAJORITY of them don't have the same level of concern for their surroundings. Saying that there are plenty of Irish people renting houses who i would also put in this category. Sorry if this makes you sick but it makes me sick at times paying a mortgage on my house and looking after it well and then someone moves in next door, renting (or getting rent paid on SW for them) and they have no regard whatsoever for the surroundings. Just my opinion.

I also put down a deposit about a 10 weeks ago on a house in Castleland Park.
At that time the EA told us that all the houses that had been bought/deposits put down etc...were bought by families and couples. No investor had bought yet.... he was showing us the map where you can see what has been booked/sold with the little pins and Id say 60% of the houses in castleland park were already gone at that stage. I think its a great area as you are on the dublin side so avoid the town traffic at peak hours and it isnt as over developed as all the new estates on the north west side of town. There is green area behind or beside castleland? that cannot be developed on.
Cant remember what you call this type of land....its zoned or whatever to be a park. This info i got from EA also.

thanks for your reply, are you still buying in castleland park? the green area in front of the show house is apparantley going to be duplexes and apartments, is that the area you where talking about? we where told the same thing about all families buying the houses.....but if you go on to fingal co co you will see that there are 128 or around that amount houses on the affordable housing list in castleland. it doesn't say specifically whether its castleland park or the court, but i rang fingal co co and they said that j wade developers gave a lot of houses from castleland court to affordable housing. we drove up there and its not being kept very well as i already described. my only concern is, if that place gets a bad name that our estate will be tarred with the same brush, even though they are completely separate but they are both named castlelands....let me know what you think,thanks, nicolette

i am not putting them down cheeus, i just dont want to buy a really expensive house privately for it to turn into a council estate in a couple of years and for me to lose value on it, i am not only talking about foreign nationals here either.

MLouisa - I know nothing about you and have no idea what you do or don't do for a living. However, I know how hard i work for what i have and i am proud of what i have so therefore i would have no intention of sponging from the state even if i could get the same house at half the price. I have morals and i respect the area i live in. It would be great if everyone could have the same respect and then all estates would be pleasant to live in for everyone.

The OP is asking about an area and i am giving my opinion on most estates in Balbriggan in indeed all over Dublin and that is that there is anti social behavior wherever you go and therefore i don't feel the poster has made a mistake buying a house in Balbriggan. The only way to ensure that you don't have any problems is to buy a plot of land in a remote area and build a house which for the majority of people is out of reach.

So Mlouisa - you say "fair play" to the person living beside me who is anti-social and paying half what i did for my house and i say "fair play" to the original poster for buying their own house and having an interest in the area they are hoping to live in. If everyone did the same wouldn't it be much nicer for everyone.

No, the "green" area i think is the opposite side of the show houses. that will be terrible for those who bought those houses along side the show houses? they will loose their sea view and view over town?? that green area isnt even all that big! i dunno how they are going to fit apartments there. im going to ring the esate agent today to see if he knows anything and ill get back to you. cause our house is looking over the town and sea also behind the show houses. and if i knew houses were going to go up and block the view i would definetly reconsider buying. the backgrounds of the people who will live there doesnt really bother me...casue if there is trouble all you can do is report it....as another poster said you will get a certain amount of anti social behaviour no matter where you live. there is a school being built near by as far as i know and small shopping centre also next summer....these will all add to the value of the properties. i just hope that this area doesnt get as over developed as the other side of town. we looked at houses there also and couldnt believe what we were seeing. The houses were tiny. and all seemed cramped together. we had to drive through 3 or 4 differents developents to get to the house we were interested in.

Can i just suggest you read up on AH v Social housing before you tar everyone with the same brush...they are totally different!!!!!!!1.......i have morals too and i respect the area i am moving in to.............AH is not sponging off the state and i am really shocked that in this day and age some one who is obviously educated enough to know how to write and use the internet would say something like this!

I sincerely hope your last post is removed as it will cause great offence to many regular users who do not take out their personal problems on this site

M-Louisa - Firstly i would like to say that you do not need to "educated" to use the internet nowadays. It is a way of life and most things are now done via internet.

Secondly i would like to add that at no point did i tarnish ALL people who go through either affordable housing or the social welfare. If you took the time to actually read my post rather than jumping the gun and presuming that i am having a go at people then you would see that the purpose of my post is to point out that it does not matter where you go to live nowadays there will always be someone who does not have the same respect for your area. The original post was a question on whether or not the poster had made a mistake putting a deposit on a house in a certain area and i thought it best to point out that wherever you go you will have to deal with a certain amount of problems.

Thirdly i do not have any personal problems and i hope YOUR post is removed for such a personal accusation. Please just grow up. This forum is for asking and getting advice and im entitled to my opinion on any matter and i feel i have given advice to the original poster as they take their first step onto the property ladder which is not an easy thing to do in this country.

And finally - best of luck to the OP with their new home and i hope you do not experience any of the problems that CAN arise within estate living.

just wanted to see how you got on with the estate agent today? i rang fingal co co again today and found out that the estate across the road is actually two estates, one is hamilton, which is completely social housing, and the other is castleland court. they are right beside each other so it kind of looks like the same estate. fingal also said that a maximum of ten percent of the houses within our estate can be allocated to affordable/social housing, which is twenty houses for every two hundred built. also they said we can view the developers site plans on fingal co co website, but i've been searching for them all day and cant seem to find them on there website, but apparantley this will show any future developments planned within the estate, ie duplex's opposite show house or where the school/shops will be. let me know if you can find any of this on there website,

Just be aware also that there have been cases in Balbriggan estates where the council have not stuck to or have altered the original plans. For example the road from the town through Moylaragh up to Dunnes Stores was never supposed to be the main access road to Dunnes and this was stated when people were first buying the houses on that road. There are now all sorts of protests etc due to the volume of traffic on that road. The county council can quite easily change their plans and it wouldn't surprise me if there is alot more planning for the area you are thinking of. Take a drive up through the moylaragh/bremore area near Dunnes, it is very built up and im not sure if it was always supposed to be that way. I looked at the plans way back before any of that building started about 7 years ago and it didn't look to be so built up.

Nicred: i am from the area and i have not heard anything good, bad or indifferent about that estate so I cant really comment...altho if you are new to the town ( and maybe you are not ) it is a grand place, good pubs, restaurants, shops, etc. You will be close to a bus eireann bus stop when you are and there is a good service in to town every day which is reliable. Maybe try one of those neighbours sites for opinions from people who live in the estate and can comment on that

mlouisa - Petty to say the least. I'll leave that area of research to you.....i have no interest in looking up things that i have no need for. As far as im concerned topic is closed - concentrate on what the poster is asking.

I was trying to be helpful actually as I thought you were interested in it and might want to understand how the scheme works. Sorry if you misconstrue that as pettiness. That was not the intention.

MLouisa - Fair enough if i took you up wrong. I work in property so am well aware of all the schemes available.
