Carer's Allowance - Eligible for Payment Protection on Mortgage?

A friend of mine has recently had to give up work to care for his termilally ill wife. Can he claim on his payment protection policy to pay the mortgage. He is in receipt of Carers Allowance.

It really depends on the terms & conditions of the policy as to what's covered and what's not covered. Has he checked these or just submitted a claim to see what happens?

I would say unlikely, as generally voluntary redundancy would be excluded in payment protection policies.

If his partner was insured, then there might be a claim based on critical illness to his partner if covered.

But for someone to voluntarily give up work, even to care for a terminally ill partner, I would say no
