career coach/counsellor in the West of Ireland

has anyone used a career coach/counsellor in Galway/West of Ireland? I have been out of full-time employment for 10 years and need to refocus in terms of my career direction and skills-base. Would like to take some direction for a professional. Would appreciate any leads
 
Hi,

I used two career coaches in the West when I changed job last August and found them both very helpful. If you mail me a private message I will reply with the contact details.

I would recommend that you speak to them both, let them know your situation and needs and get firm answers on the costs involved - they can be pricey depending on the type of package you opt for, but can also taylor the package to suit the price your willing to pay.
 
I hadnt attended an interview for 10years so they assisted with CV preparation specifically for the role I was interested in, dry runs on interview questions, presentation delivery and hleping me take stock of which direction I wanted my career to head in - I was looking for something different.

I attended 4 interviews and got three out of the four job offers. I was part assisted by my employer and paid some training myself.

Is that not career guidance/advice rather than coaching? I thought that the latter was an ongoing mentoring process or something like that? I've always found the term "career/life coach" a bit nebulous. Are there any recognised/reputable qualifications and oversight/regulatory bodies for this sort of thing? I just wonder if it's an area that's so loosely controlled that it some chancers might not see it as an area to get into?

Why did your employer sponsor this? Redundancy/outplacement situation or something?

The is the professional body for guidance counsellors. It has strict membership criteria.
 
I think the OP should book a session with an occupational psychologist. There are some good ones attached to the universities (as posted previously by Pinky Bear)

If you could travel to Dublin you could also try www.pinpoint.ie. I sent my son for a session and found John Deeley good. There is also a follow up session so this is one of the reasons I picked him.

No affiliation, he is down on the links on Gerry Ryans website.
