Hi all, im 31 now have a qualification in in an area that i never really liked.
i would love to be working as a fitter or i maintenance something hands on. I went to a vocational school did engineering and drawing to honnors leaving cert and always did really well but went in the wrong direction after that (long story) my qualifications and experience would have no relivance in this area now .just wondering about apprenticeships seems like taken a big step back at this stage, is there any other way, would a cert in mechanical engineering lead to anything in this field.

The ESB accept speculative applications for apprenticeships here. As far as I know fitters must serve an apprenticeship. FAS have information on apprenticeships here.

There are many trades which don't require a 4-year apprenticeship e.g tiler, painter etc. [broken link removed] is a fairly comprehensive list of trades with varying levels of training.

4 years will pass quickly, even more so if you enjoy/love your work. Regarding money... would you be able work part-time using your current occupational skills to help pay bills?

Hope this helps.

Thanks cole for your reply i've checked out these sites and they have been helpful
