All,

I have used this site for a good while now and it seems to be full of intelligent and even witty people so I thought I would pick your brains..

I am a qualified chartered accountant for the last 8 years, having trained with the big 4 and had experience in NY and now 4 years in industry - I have specialised in Financial services for 6 of these years and spent the last two years in a more "traditional" industry as a finance manager to develop the skill sets of managing staff and delegating in what is a fast moving company - currently managing a team of 7.

I am looking for some career guidance and thoughts from people on what I need to focus on to move my career forward. I am looking to become a financial controller - now I could apply today for FC roles in a small company but I would like the challenge of a big company and would like to move on to directorships down the line but not sure what skill set I should work on now that would make this more attainable in say 10 years.

I dont really have anyone at work who can give me solid career advice and the main thoughts I questions I have are

1) Should I move back in to Financial services - good money but you are really restricted to the IFSC and difficult to get FC roles
2) What skills do I need to develop now for down the road on my career path
3) Is there anywhere where you can get good career advice from current directors or qualified accountants?
4) Should I take a role as FC in a small company - prove my worth and then try and move on to a similar role in a bigger company
5) Should I sit tight and hope the FC job comes up in my current job (company employing 400 plus) - unlikely by the way

Any thoughts appreciated......
