Hi all. Are there and high-street rental companies that DON'T demand a credit card ?

Thanks

Hertz will accept a debit card, or at least they did a couple of years ago

I'd talk to somebody in the location you are hiring first - have seen people report being turned away from Hertz though their site say it's possible but with a lot of hoops including proof of income

https://www.bunq.com/travel - this is coded as a credit card but operates like a prepaid debit card. One off fee €9.99.

Most rental companies will not accept those pre-loaded type credit cards, they defeat the whole purpose of security for them. Some will accept debit cards but you can expect to have to pay the full insurance excess up front and have it refunded if the car is returned without issue.

Hertz will accept debit cards, but you will need to take out their highest level of insurance cover.
