Car Import - Insurance & Tax

My partner is looking to buy a vehicle in the UK and bring to the continent. Does anyone know how we can get insurance.
Do we have to re register the car in the Country we are resident before we can get Tax and Insurance.
I know of different people in Ireland who have bought cars in the UK and have been driving them in Ireland for over 6 months with UK Reg, How do these people get tax and insurance.
Any advice appreciated.

bring to what country? Would not make more sense to just buy a car there - unlikely to save money by buying in the UK and importing.
Re tax and insurance - that'll depend on the country, in ireland insurers have no problem insuring a uk reg car.

As an Irish resident you can insured any car for a limited period.

If you are moving abroad you should insure the car in your country of residence.
