Capetown with the Travel Department?

Am thinking of booking a trip to Capetown with the Travel Department in May.

Has anyone specifically done this trip using the Travel Department? I have been to Boston and Beijing/Hong Kong with them before and had no complaints.

I understand that this time of year will be SA autumn/winter and was curious what the weather would be like. I know its like predicting the lotto numbers but I'm just chancing my arm.

Any info would be much appreciated

If you have been happy with this company before than why are you hesitating to go with them again? I would never use them again after a very unsatisfactory trip to New England. In my opinion their blurb never really lives up to expectations. If you are happy with them then go with them. If I were heading off to Capetown myself I would investigate ground based tours from Capetown and organise flights myself.

Thank you for your reply BoxtheFox.

Perhaps I didn't make myself clear enough. I am not hesitating to use them as I have travelled with them before and did not have any problems.

I was specifically asking if anyone had gone to Capetown with them. I am going to be travelling on my own as my husband does not want to go, so an escorted trip is much more suitable for me.

It is unfortunate that you did not have a good experience with them in New England.

Thank you for the links that you provided - they look very interesting and I will research them for tours/day trips for any free days I will have.

May would be ok around the Cape & fine for sightseeing but not as good as Oct. Nov,Feb. or March. I have been on another package deal from Dublin. Most relevant would be are you flying direct from Dublin or will you have to travel via a hub ? Also I would always check out the Hotels being used by the Travel Department on . I used them on a trip to Northern Italy & the so called 3 star was very poor & badly located.

Hi Box the Fox,

I did go to Capetown in the end, with the Travel Department and had a ball. Despite it being early May when we went, it rained for the first two days (light drizzle) but it cleared up and we had 30 degree heat for the rest of the holiday.

We got to do Robben Island and Table Mountain, both of which are weather permitting. Hermanus and the winelands were great tours and I have to say I don't think I have been to somewhere as naturally beautiful as South Africa.

The tour guide that we had on this trip was the best one I ever met. Nothing was too much trouble for her and she really did go out of her way for us.

The hotel we stayed in was great - no problems at all. Would highly recommend the Winchester Mansions. An old hotel built in a colonial style that has been renovated.

A great trip - will go back someday.

By the way, I don't have any connections with the Travel Department.
