Can't play RTE video clips in Real player on P.C.

This is a last resort as I've tried everything I know which isn't a lot. All I want to do is play clips from rte TV that I've missed. I was able to view the blue tits nest in 2006 and also last year though there was a bit of difficulty then. I may have changed something but don't know what.

I am able to play clips from BBC, MSNBC and even film clips so what can be wrong? Any advice would be much appreciated. When I go to the rte site and RealPlayer tries to open, it looks as if it's loading/connecting but that's as far as it goes.

Something else that never happened before is that a box entitled "User Name and Password Required" comes up when I'm on the rte site and real has opened. There's a box for User Name: and another for Password. Trouble is I have no memory of creating a user name/password and don't know whether it's rte or real that's asking that question. Anyway, I've tried every possible user name and password but nothing works.

I've also talked to someone in utv (my ISP) but they don't know why this happens. Using 'Help' I came across a statement saying "A Standard User (Non-Administrator) cannot launch RealPlayer after an Administrator User reinstalls RealPlayer in a new location. I'm certain I did reinstall RealPlayer and wonder could that be the problem? AFAIK I am the administrator of this computer. Has anyone else ever had this problem and where do I go to solve it?

Can you try another PC and/or browser just in case the problem is PC or browser specific? Or try the same PC/laptop on another internet link?

Thanks for that advice ClubMan. Changing the browser to Mozilla made no difference and I wasn't able to try another PC. I uninstalled and reinstalled RealPlayer too but no improvement. I made a bit of headway being able to view live TV after installing DirectX but that wasn't the answer.

After days of fiddling, trying this and that, the solution appeared out of the blue after reading again Real's Customer Support. I hit on the word proxy and that was it. All I had to do was go to Preferences in RealPlayer and then proxy. I changed everything there to "Automatically detect proxy settings" and suddenly all videos were playable. I hadn't made any other changes there previously either.

Just hope now that no one is going to say that these changes will cause another problem - especially as so far everything seems OK. Best of all that annoying request to provide a User Name and Password for Real no longer appears. Getting expert advice on AAM is great. Thanks again.
