cant download or install software anymore, any advice?

Hi, I dont know what has happened to my computer but I cant download or install any software anymore. I think my installer may be gone. I've tried to download from the internet and failed. Cant even get windows updates from the security centre. Had AVG but I've lost it.

Does anybody know how I can fix this please?

Hard to give any specific advice without knowing more (OS, capacity, history, etc) but even if you posted more I would be very inclined to say bring it to someone to have a look at.
 
Many common malware programs produce this effect, as they attempt to frustrate any efforts to remove them. Can you say if you had a firewall running? If you had no protection (firewall or AV) then possibly your machine has one or more common viruses. I agree with So-crates that, in your case, it would be best to get someone more experienced (e.g. your local computer fix-it guys) to give your machine the once-over. Some of these can be troublesome to remove.
