can i get fixed rate mortgage on self build?

Hoping somenone might be able to help me. I am building a house. We have contractors in and have a fixed price contract in place. We have our mortgage approved from AIB. The only thing is that they say we have to go on a variable interest rate until we draw dowwn the full amount. Is this true as we really would like to fix when fixed rates are so low?

This is true for AIB. Another lender may allow you to fix from the start.

Thanks for that. Just our luck. We went with AIB because they have the best rates for the minute. Guess there is nothing we can do as we need to draw down mortgage soon so not in position to go through all that paper work again with another lender
