Can boards.ie be fixed?

How much of that is going on though. Most of the contributors to those subjects have left years ago.

there are still a number of fairly busy forums outside of the politics adjacent ones - Bargains, Cycling, Transport/Infrastructure, Motors, Gigs, TV are amongst the forums I visit regularly and have good, Ireland-focussed discussions you wouldn't necessarily get on Reddit, and I'm sure there are others in topics I'm not that interested in.

There are also a lot of moribund forums that could be archived and removed from the main menu to simplify the structure. The likes of CA and AH require a lot of moderation and are replicated elsewhere (AH is much the same as r/Ireland IMO) so I don't think they'd be any great loss.

Russian/Ukraine war" forum would be one of the most popular ones with lots of interesting posts and links to what is really happening there especially as it hasn't been on the mainstream news much in last year with gaza taking up much of the attention.

For me that has too much infighting and personal attacks to read. Again I'd use UK sites or military sites for that, where it's based on facts where possible.

This is a very good point. Not every Discussion Forum needs to discuss every issue. If Boards closed down discussion of Current Affairs or even Gaelic Football, there are plenty of other places for people to discuss them.

When someone tells me that our moderation standards are stupid or too strict, I reply that there are other forums which are much more relaxed than us. We cater for people who want reasonably civil discussion. Different strokes for different folks.
