No idea why SF seem to have a blind spot for sex offenders. Lessons clearly have not been learned.

They've a blind spot for people who blow up and shoot children as well. Why do you think sex offenders should be any different? Maybe his victim(s) was/were protestant kids?

It's a little more than ironic that an organisation with a long history of taking the law into their own hands and administering corporal punishment as they see fit now think it's OK to hide behind statements saying such issues were a matter for the Gardai.

You'd think SF would have rehearsed a response in the event something like this happened....whoever is advising Maryloo needs a good kneecapping if not a six-pack.

Clearly to anyone with an ounce of awareness, the response is to get out in front of it, loads of handwringing and ufasach ufasagh type guff.

She hoped it would just go away of its own accord. Really poor leadership, I for one hope she continues forever as SF leader :)

are you talking about Sinn Fein or the Catholic Church here?, right now, I'm stuggling to see a difference

She said that the two concerned would be subject to the full rigours of SF’s rules.

They’ll sleep with one eye open……

Mary Lou wants to run the country, but as party leader she is doing a very bad job of managing what her own party organisation does.

The wheels seem to be coming off for Sinn Fein. The party members and TDs who held the mistaken belief that the elected party leadership actually run the party seem to have begun to realise their error.

It's quite astonishing how quickly their fortunes have turned around (or perhaps their rise was a blip rather than a sustained movement?)

This was barely a year ago -they were way ahead of FG and FF - now they're trailing in third place and still slipping. It'll be interesting to see what transpires after the next election.

They fail time and time again to read the electorate particularly that element who should naturally gravitate to the shinners

It reminds me of an interview with a senior FA official bemoaning that their supporters read the Sun or the Mirror while the Rugby supporters read the Irish Times.

At the heart of SF there is a contempt for the working class, similar to UK Labours Emily Thornberrys contempt for the white van man and his patriotism.

Gosh...the whole notion of a "kangaroo court" must be the last thing SF want to be dealing with at this point in the electoral cycle. Crisis mode doesn't come close to the turmoil they must be undergoing...

The chairman of the Dáil’s Public Accounts Committee, Brian Stanley, has resigned as a Sinn Féin TD.
In just the latest crisis to hit Mary Lou McDonald’s party, the Laois-Offaly TD said he was quitting Sinn Féin after being subjected to what he dubbed a “kangaroo court” on foot of a complaint that had been made against him.
In a statement on Saturday evening, first reported by the Laois Today website, the high-profile TD said: “I am announcing my resignation from Sinn Féin with immediate effect.

At least they don’t kneecap the “guilty” in the Shinner kangaroo courts… unlike their parent organisation.

The thoughts of these people, with their bloodied hands on the levers of power and in particular Justice, is dreadful. People getting hauled off in the dead of night to face a SF court!

Shes (Mary Loo) proven again and again she can't even govern her own party, let alone a Country without tripping over herself every step of the way.....

I've second hand embarrassment for her.

It is very important to remember that the elected leadership if Sinn Fein does not run Sinn Fein.

And of course now they've referred it to the Garda. I could be cynical as to how convenient it is now for SF in the run in to an election that they can say, "we can't comment, it's with the Gardai." But if it was so serious. why an internal enquiry and not refer it in the first place?

2 TDs gone in a week, I presume Stanley's wife (a County Councilor) will also be resigning.

I listened to Mary Lou being interviewed on RTE Radio 1 this morning. Observations and opinions:

Observations - Mary Lou mentioned repeatedly their their internal review, with an external solicitor was conducted at arm's length. It then emerged that the solicitor is actually a party member! In addition, the internal review was conducted with said solicitor plus two other seniour members of the party. Mary Lou confirmed that neither is an elected member. One from the North and the other from the South.

Opinions - This, to me, has the hallmarks of the secretive, clandestine, Kangaroo courts that has seemed to define Sinn Fein for so long. The fact that such a long standing and high profile member of Sinn Fein, Brian Stanley, has referred to be subjected to a Kangaroo court is even more damning. Secondly, I think it's far too much of a coincidence that Sinn Fein only referred the issue to the Gardai the day after Brian Stanley left the party.

Do we really want Sinn Fein to be running this country if they behave like this? What else don't we know......

I'm surprised that anyone's surprised.
The IRA set up Sinn Fein as their political wing. It has always been run by the IRA and will continue to be run by their Army Council for the foreseeable future.
We know that MLA's in Stormont have their salaries paid into bank accounts to which they don't have access. We know that Mary Lou was hand picked by Gerry Adams and that Sinn Fein have never had a leadership contest. It is, in the words of Michael McDowell, not an ordinary political party.
